Helping your child to achieve their very best.
Help to Learn specialises in small group tuition with a maximum of 4 students in each session. Sessions are tailored to meet the needs of individual learners, helping them to achieve their goals.
English Tuition is delivered by a fully qualified English teacher and is aimed at learners aged 11- 18.
Every lesson is planned according to the individual's learning needs. We offer help to get learners through exams and each student has an individual programme of learning that will help build confidence in speaking, listening and writing.

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Each session is 1 hour long.
Sessions will help to build confidence in speaking and listening, reading and writing skills and each learner has an individual lesson plan, depending on their aims and learning style. A variety of teaching and learning methods are used- from traditional pen and paper to improving word processing skills and learning how to research on the internet. Sessions include interesting reading and writing tasks, help with grammar and punctuation, educational word games and preparation for exams as necessary. Each student has access to a laptop during the session or they can bring their own if they prefer.
Sessions are about building confidence in reading, writing and speaking and listening skills. They support the work done in school, following the guidelines of the National Curriculum and relevant examination boards. Helping students to have more confidence, to address their particular learning needs and understand what is being asked of them in exams are key steps in their progress. As GCSE time approaches, students are able to undertake past-paper type questions to help them feel more confident on the day and understand what is expected of them under exam conditions.
Students are taught in a comfortable and safe learning environment and sessions are planned to suit the individual needs of each learner. Group sessions are very small and students follow their own programme of work with lots of face to face input from the tutor. The emphasis is always on building confidence and helping to make learning fun and enjoyable. We will ask you to let us know if your child has particular learning needs and will aim to accommodate and incorporate these into each session.
Please make contact via phone or email to discuss availability for your child.
Sessions are booked in half-term packages and payment is made up front for each half-term package prior to the start of the first session. Unfortunately we cannot refund payment if, for whatever reason, your child is unable to attend. Should your child need to miss a session we ask that you inform us in advance and they will be emailed the work from that session to be completed at home.
"Caroline tutored my daughter from September to November 2023 , following failing her GCSE in the summer. She was really friendly and Libby really enjoyed her time working with her. Caroline communicated well with Libby and I always felt that Libby was making progress. Libby has successfully passed her GCSE, so we would recommend Caroline for anyone thinking of using a private Tutor."
Sally Whitehouse ( parent )
"Caroline has helped me through my homeschooling experience by providing a good level of support alongside helpful resources and insightful knowledge of the subject. My English has improved significantly since I began working with her over the two years, and I would recommend her to those in need of an intelligent and understanding teacher. Caroline helped me target my weakest areas in the subject and together we overcame any issues holding me back from getting a good grade in my GCSEs. She is an amazing teacher and really helped me develop in English language and literature and I can only hope she continues to share her skills with others."
Libby, student.
"I lost faith in the UK schooling system relatively late during my daughter's education and Caroline rescued us just in time to support her onto successful English GCSE exam results. Most children benefit from individual attention focused on their specific needs and Caroline was invaluable in gaining my daughter's trust and guiding her through a difficult period in all our lives. Communications were excellent throughout and I recommend the service provided; peace of mind your child is in safe hands and studying beyond the basic scope of the standard syllabus."
S. Buxton, parent.
"Caroline has taught my son for more than 5 years. She has taught him to read, write and mathematics- he's even able to speak some French! Without her professionalism and support I would have been lost. She's been great and I class Caroline to be the best at what she does. I recommend anybody to Caroline for their child's tutoring."
N. Keeling, parent.
"The English tutoring helped to increase my general knowledge and understanding of what to expect in the real exams, how to approach the questions and how to get the ideas from my head onto the paper. Caroline helped to build my self confidence."
Billy, student.
